Hi and Welcome to my page

It's all clear sailing from here—the journey of a quote.

Hi Reader

Sometimes, touchpoints with the customer can be good when you quote on a lawn. In fact, at Lawnmowing101, we actively encourage them.

What is a touch point, and why is it good for quoting? I'm glad you asked.

A touchpoint is a contact point with the customer. It gives you an advantage if you use it correctly. The journey or a quote starts like this.

Touchpoint 1.

The customer calls you and asks you for a quote. You get the details and tell them that you will be around to quote within 24 hours. You don't want to take this long; you are, in fact, setting yourself up for the next touchpoint.

Touchpoint 2

Under promise and overdeliver. By saying 24 hours, you have given yourself an easy target to beat. You want to get around that day or, if it is late, at least the following morning.

Touchpoint 3

Five minutes after getting off the phone, you text the customer, thanking them for the call and saying you will be around there within the next few hours. See what you have just done; the customer was thinking 24 hours, and now it's down to three. Now that is service.

Touchpoint 4

Do the quote. If the customer is home, give them the quote. If they are out, ring them with the quote.

Now, you have actually touched base with the customer three times, but it feels like more.

The chances are that they will go with you straight away, provided they are happy with your pricing.

If they get other quotes, they will feel that you are somehow more reliable because of how you handled the quote.

Your chances of getting the job are higher even if someone else has quoted a little bit lower.

News: Lawns for sale in Huntly

I will be advertising a small lawn round this weekend that has just become available in Huntly. It will not be advertised anywhere until tomorrow. Eight good two-week lawns. Just over 2.5 hours work a week, turning over around $222 a week. Looking at offers around $2500. It is an excellent little side business or addition to an existing business.

The clock is ticking.

Google My Business websites are closing down on the 1st of March. I am working on stand-alone sites for around $120 a year to give a solution to contractors using a Google site. I will be finishing off the prototype this weekend. More about that next week

My book of the week

The book I have been reading while mowing lawns this week is Scientific Advertising by Claude C. Hopkins. It is an oldie but a goodie written by the guy who convinced the world that they needed to use toothpaste every day in the early 1900s. You can listen to the audiobook for free here.

Anyway, get out there, build your lawn business, and have fun.

Stuart

Hi Reader Firstly, my apologies for missing a week. It's the first time in a couple of years, so I guess that's not too bad. These emails take a while to write, and last weekend was hectic. Today, I'm going to look at everyone's favorite subject. How to get more customers? One way that lawn businesses have been using for years is by putting out flyers. The million-dollar question is… But do they really work? Let's find out... When I started a lawn mowing business in 1987, delivering flyers...

Hi It's been another busy week. Working in the rain the last few days hasn't been much fun. Still, it will do the grass good. The lawns are recovering quite well from the dry spell. Someone in the group asked a good question this week. "Hi guys, with the warmer days ending, how's everyone's balance books looking? Has there been a noticeable difference in the state of the economy? Yes, things will slow down soon, and you will soon get customers asking for longer cut cycles. This will leave...

Hi Reader We just picked up our third van last week. We are trying to keep the business small, but with three of us working part-time and closing on 200 lawns, coordinating was starting to get tricky. There were times when all three of us needed to be on the road simultaneously. We have been as high as five vehicles before, but we were employing staff and didn't want to go down that road again. This time around, it's strictly family. Me arriving home with my new van We like to operate out of...
